Intended purpose

What Lighter is for.

Lighter is a wellness app for breathing, relaxation, meditation and winding down. It is not a medical device.

Intended purpose

Lighter guides the pace of your breathing with a light that rises and falls, optional sound and, on Apple Watch, gentle taps. It is intended to help people take time for slow breathing, relaxation and meditation, and to wind down in the evening.

Who it is for

People who want a simple way to practise slow breathing or meditation, or to wind down before bed.

What it is not for

  • Lighter is not intended to diagnose, prevent, monitor, predict, treat or alleviate any disease, injury or medical condition.
  • It does not replace advice, diagnosis or treatment from a healthcare professional.
  • Heart rate shown after a session is read from Apple Health, Health Connect or Apple Watch, for your own interest. Lighter does not interpret it, give alerts or measure anything for medical purposes.

Using Lighter safely

  • Breathe at a pace that feels comfortable. If you feel dizzy or light-headed, breathe normally and stop. Patterns with breath holds can make some people light-headed.
  • The light changes slowly and does not flicker. If bright light is uncomfortable for you, lower the brightness, use sound only, or use the taps on Apple Watch.
  • Use Lighter when you can safely close your eyes: never while driving or operating machinery.
  • If you have a health condition or concerns about breathing exercises, talk to a healthcare professional first.
